Newbie Mixologist: A Simple Times Mixer Collab

I am by no means a master in the kitchen or behind the bar. I grew up eating casseroles and watching my parents and their friends barbecue while drinking beers and Zimas. (oh the 90’s) Fast forward to college and I would legit tell the bartender to make me something pretty and taste good and carried on with my evening. It wasn’t until I met my husband in 2016 that I even really started to pay attention to the way drinks were made. It probably helps that he started taking me to places I’d never been before and encouraging me to try things. I’ve always been an adventurous eater, but the world of good beer, wine and cocktails was totally new to me.

What sparked this new hobby for me was the purchasing of a new cabinet for our living room. We needed more storage space for our record player and the small amount of alcohol we collected over the summer and fall (gifts from our wedding for example) from varying parties and get togethers. My husband worked in restaurants all through college and the early days of his teaching career part-time, so he has some mixology knowledge and has always been the mix master during game nights or in the evenings when the kiddos are in bed. He seemed to be having fun trying out new things and experimenting and I wanted to be apart of it besides being the taste tester. I wanted to play around and create that perfect drink but I had no idea where to start.

Then I found them. I saw another friend post about Simple Time Mixers while at a food and drink convention in Columbus back in December. After seeing their company mentioned I checked out their IG feed and fell in love with what I saw. Simple Time Mixers is a small company based out of Columbus that specializes in fresh, organic mixers that are “inspired by a time when real ingredients were the only option”. All of their ingredients are 100% natural and never made with preservatives, dyes or “natural flavors”. Their products are also organic, vegan, gluten free, and manufactured right in Columbus.

After hearing about Simple Times Mixers, I purchased a box of all their Moscow Mule mixers and loved them! (Which is how this little collaboration came to be.) They were gracious enough to send me this months mixer box and I received their cocktail of the month (a Grapefruit and Basil Limeade) as well as their seasonal cocktail, the Raspberry Mule (a favorite of mine) to try out. On each label they tell you the mixer to alcohol ratio as well as a small list of different alcohol types to use with each mix. Today I chose to make a gin drink with the Grapefruit and Basil Limeade, and then I switched it up and made a mimosa with the Raspberry Mule mix since it was a listed suggestion on the info card included in the box.

Each drink it made with a 3:1 ratio which makes it super easy to do and they taste great! The simple instructions make mixology for this newbie super easy and left my husband feeling relaxed since he wasn’t in charge for once. I also went ahead and got some very simple garnish (basil, mint, and fresh raspberries) for each drink to give it that extra flair and give me a little more practice when it comes to presentation.

Grapefruit and Basil Gimlet

  • 2oz Hendricks Gin
  • 6oz Simple Time Mixers Grapefruit and Basil Limeade
  • Basil For Garnish

Fill cocktail mixer halfway full of ice and add Gin and Mixer. Shake until well blended and strain into a glass. Garnish with basil and serve immediately. (See friends, this is EASY!)

Raspberry Mule Mimosa

  • 3oz of Simple Times Mixers Raspberry Mule
  • Prosecco or Champagne of choice

Add the Simple Times Mixer Raspberry Mule mix to a champagne flute then top with desired amount of Prosecco or Champagne. Garnish with mint and raspberries and serve immediately.

Monthly Box

Well there you have it friends, cocktails made easy with the help of Simple Time Mixers. If this seems like something right up your alley then I seriously recommend checking out their monthly box subscription. Each month you’ll receive the cocktail of the month (16oz) plus their current seasonal mixer (32oz)! How fun is that? You can choose between Month-to-Month ($40), 3-Month ($115) or 6-Month ($225). Whatever option you choose, you can’t go wrong in my opinion friends because these mixers have amazing quality and taste delicious.

Check them out today, and keep an eye on my feed for cocktail recipes with Simple Time Mixers in the very near future!
